“Participating in DanceAbility made me feel that I was connecting with other people. I felt comfortable when I was dancing. What I have learned about dancing with people is that they move anyway that their bodies want to move. I learned that people with disabilities can do the same things I can do. They just do it in different ways. I am a Muslim girl and I know what it is like to be different. People have made fun of the scarf I wear. In DanceAbility, we can move together whether we are different or the same! We can be one community.”

The mission of the Disability Arts and Culture Project (DACP) is to further the artistic expression of people with both hidden and visible disabilities. We view disability as a natural and valuable variation of the human form. We believe affirmative disability identity is intertwined with racial, gender, social, and economic justice. DACP accomplishes this mission by supporting the creative expression of people with disabilities. DACP utilizes the performing arts as a method of examining disability in relation to society. DACP also supports established and emerging artists as well as the community at large in developing knowledge and expression of disability culture and pride.
